Diabetes Body Odor–What is it?

Diabetes could produce a body smell which is much more unusual than what you have been used to. Full blown and not treated diabetes may lead to a condition called ketoacidosis. When this happens, the patient’s skin will taste sweet and produce an instantly recognizable pungent odor. Diabetes may also cause the patient to smell like acetone. This is because of the insulin taken to cure the disease.

To manage your odor, you could practice the ABC’s of any type of body odor action. First, maintain a good hygiene and use soap with antibacterial when you wash. Apply body powder or any antiperspirant to keep your body dry. Keeping the body dry will reduce the amount of sweat produced and lessens production of bacteria on the skin, thereby alleviating body odor. You could as well use deodorants for excessive underarm sweating and rubbing alcohol to kill bacteria on your skin’s surface.

Once again, if you observe sudden sweet smell in urine, skin dryness, tingling feet, or feeling of being thirsty constantly, consult your physician immediately. Always consider wearing loose and cool clothes.

This would allow free air circulation all over the body and it will permit the unpleasant smell to pass. Cotton underwear and clothes are your best bet in this condition. Make it a habit to change your underwear two or three times a day if possible. Avoid frequent use of panty liners since these will also be the reason for bacteria to multiply. If regularly changing your underwear still gives the unpleasant groin odor, then your underwear may have some sort of smell that has set in.

You could boil your underwear to kill the bacteria or replace it with a new one. These simple ways must help you in getting rid of the unpleasant odor as well as make you feel comfortable and clean. Getting Rid Of Your Child Body Odor

The key to getting rid of most body odors is to restrain the body’s apocrine production and to reduce bacteria on the surface of our skin.

Use anti-bacterial deodorant soap: Use antibacterial soap everyday.

Use acne cleanser: If the above product doesn’t work, use an acne cleanser that has benzoyl peroxide. This has strong anti-bacterial properties; however, be careful because excessive use could cause irritation and drying. You can as well try an anti-bacterial ointment or Neosporin.
Rubbing alcohol: Use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or witch hazel for extra protection. These could help reduce odor-causing bacteria.

Try a home made deodorant: You can give your child homemade deodorant by mixing equal parts of Aloe Vera, witch hazel, and water. You could also add one teaspoon of glycerin with oil that has good smell. Mix them in a spray bottle.

Antiperspirants: These products are aluminum-based chemicals which plug the pores and stop you from perspiring. However, antiperspirants can cause irritation or dermatitis – swollen, red, itchy skin, especially in children.

Deodorants: Deodorants eradicate the smell of perspiration by neutralizing bacteria. These stuffs do not prevent perspiration, so they should be reapplied to stop the development of bacteria and bad odor. Deodorants and remedies like antibacterial cleansers, rubbing alcohol, or homemade deodorants can be less irritating to the skin of children than antiperspirants.

Daily Bathe: Regular bathing helps decrease the number of bacteria on the skin.

Thoroughly dry the feet after bathing: Bacteria increases in damp places for example between the toes. To absorb moisture, use powders like baking soda, cornstarch, or foot powders.

Wear socks and shoes made up of natural materials: Shoes that are made up of natural materials like leather or net material could help prevent sweaty feet by permitting the feet to breathe.

Change socks often: Change at least once or twice a day.

Wear loose clothing: Wear natural and loose fabrics like cotton, silk, and wool. This allows the skin to breathe.

Laundry detergents: Wash the fabrics with an odor fighting laundry detergent. Change underwear or clothes during the day if necessary.

Eat a well balanced diet: Toxins in the body can produce a bad odor. Eating a balance diet and eliminating waste efficiently will prevent excretions, including feces and urine from bad odor.

In most children, sweating and body odor is not related to any medical

What Causes Body Odor?

Body odor refers to the bad or unpleasant smell secreted by the body. The bad smell actually results from the bacteria present on the body, which multiply rapidly when they interact or come in contact with the perspiration or sweat. Body odor is common in some body parts such as feet, hair, skin, groin, armpits, pubic hair, ears, and belly button. The cause of body odor actually stems from the temperature regulation system of the body, specifically the sweat glands. When the temperature of your body rises, your nervous system automatically stimulates the eccrine glands to release or secrete fluids onto the skin surface to cool the body as it evaporates. This fluid, also called the perspiration, is composed of salt and water and contains the residues of other electrolytes and other substances the help regulate the fluid balance in the body.

On the other hand, the apocrine glands secrete or release a fatty sweat directly into the gland’s tubule. When you are stressed or under extreme emotions, the tubule’s wall contracts; thereby, pushing the sweat to the skin’s surface where the bacteria living in that area start breaking it down. Usually, it’s the breakdown of the bacteria that causes the bad odor.
